Applying Your Pallet Stretch Wrap

You can apply your stretch film manually, or install the rolls into your existing lines for automated wrapping.

Our pallet wraps are power pre-stretched for the best machine application results.

For superior protection, wrap your pallets inside our shrink pallet covers using a handheld heat gun. The wrap will shrink around your products, effortlessly holding them in place and protecting them from contamination.

Stretch wrap for pallets, or pallet wrap, is a type of film that can be stretched by hand or a pallet wrapping machine around a palletised load. The stretch film is pre stretched to increase yield and the elastic recovery keeps the palletised loads securely wrapped together. It’s used to prevent movement of palletised loads during transportation to reduce damage and protect the quality of the products. Heavy duty pallet wrap can be used to wrap heavy loads with sharp edges, to prevent tearing on the product, providing further protection.

It’s important you know how to secure a pallet, as a loose pallet could potentially be dangerous to those transporting and receiving the palletised load. It’s important the pallet is stacked correctly with the heaviest items at the bottom of the pallet. The base should be the first to be wrapped in stretch film where the end of the stretch wrap is tied together in a loose knot. The knot at the end of your film wrap should be threaded around one corner of the pallet, where you should then wrap your pallet wrap around the pallet items at the bottom of the stack. It’s vital the stretch film is kept tight at all times, ensuring you do not rip it. You should always continue to wrap your stretch film in the same direction. Cast film is sticky on one side, with blown film being sticky on both sides so it should shrink back and stick to itself. As the heaviest items sit at the base, it’s important there pallet’s base is secure so benefit in being wrapped several times. After the base is secured, you can continue to wrap the rest of the pallet in the same direction, securing the pallet as you move up. When you have fully wrapped the palletised load, you can wrap the pallet again in the same direction, moving down the pallet. The pallet should pass a cut and weigh test when securely wrapped. You finish by tearing the stretch film, folding it under a layer to secure it. Following these pallet wrapping instructions will help to prevent injury from loose loads for those within the supply chain.

Our stretch wrap is fully recyclable meaning a more economical and sustainable option for pallet wrappers.

Cast films are made through a rapid cooling cast process where they are cooled to form a thing film which can then be rolled. The cast process give a very clear film, which can be important for industries where labels and barcodes on the palletised goods need to be scanned. It’s smooth surface and one sided resin type allows it to cling to products and makes it quiet in use. Thickness can also be controlled to greater accuracy.

As in blown film, co-extrusion is also a growing process technology, which can provide additional functional, protective, and decorative properties. Blown film is cooled slowly which results in the film being slightly lighter and cloudy, meaning it is not as see-through as cast film. Blown film is also tackier, meaning that is is very sticky and palletised loads can stick to each other. This makes it the ideal solutions for palletised loads that will be stored outside. Its tackiness means the film is very loud when unwinding, but can be made as “low noise” blown film. Because it is “blown” it does not have as great accuracy as cast film.

The main differences are the thickness of the film, the application method, and the industries in which they are used. Stretch Wrap is a thin, flexible film commonly used in the food, beverage, and logistics industries. It is stretched around products and pallets to secure and protect them during transportation and storage. Stretch hood, on the other hand, is a thicker, more rigid film commonly used in the building materials, chemical, and automotive industries to protect and stabilise loads during transportation and storage.

Stretch Wrap film should not be reused because the stretching and tensioning of the film during the wrapping process can cause it to stretch out of shape, reducing its ability to provide sufficient load stability and protection during subsequent uses. Tears or punctures in the film can also compromise its strength and make it less effective for reuse.

Reusing Stretch Wrap can also compromise the cleanliness and hygiene of the wrapped products as the film can pick up dirt, dust, and other contaminants during use, which can transfer to the wrapped products during subsequent uses, potentially causing contamination or damage.

The strength of Stretch Wrap can vary depending on its thickness, material composition, and application method. Generally, Stretch Wrap is designed to be strong enough to provide load stability and protection during transportation and storage.

Thicker films are generally stronger and more puncture-resistant than thinner films. Common thicknesses for Stretch Wrap range from 40 to 120 gauge, with thicker films typically used for heavier or more fragile loads.
